Billy Dove’s life was celebrated this weekend during the Billy’s Wish 3rd Annual Dallas Golf Scramble, which was held on the birthday of Billy’s Dad Paul.

Dallas Golf Tournament 2015

The 2015 Dallas Golf Scramble raised $5,965.00 for Billy’s Wish

The Golf Scramble was organised by John ‘Eggy’ Eggleton, a lifelong friend of Paul’s who emigrated to Texas from Hemel Hempstead many years ago. He was devastated at the news of Billy’s tragic death in November 2011 and wanted to do something positive to help Paul’s mission to protect our young people. Speaking before the event, John said “None of us can imagine what Paul has to go through every day, so it’s the least we can do if this event can bring awareness to the campaign and help prevent this happening to other families.”

The event was first held in 2013 with 40 people competing, growing each year until this year when 78 golfers took part. For the third year running, the tournament was won by a team led by friends David Doyle and Mike Flanagan. Figures will be finalised this week, but today John has confirmed that the net fund raised this year was a staggering $5965.00. Charity Director Jan Maddern said “This is an enormous amount of money for Billy’s Wish and will be used to push forward the Anti Knife Crime Education Programme. Our aim is to roll out the programme across Hertfordshire first, and then ultimately across the whole country and even beyond. The message is the same in any country or language – Knives destroy lives, and we believe that education is the key”.

Trustees Paul Dove and Tanya Whitney were in Texas visiting John and his brother Mark. They were completely overwhelmed by the generosity of John and Mark’s friends and acquaintances. After the event on Saturday Paul said “We’d like to say a massive ‘Thank You’ to everybody who attended or helped out on the golf day. Words cannot express our gratitude; the kindness of the people here in Dallas – many were complete strangers until today – is overwhelming and their generosity will help to keep children and young adults back home in the UK safe. These people really did Billy proud today and we would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts.”
