The Billy’s Wish Education Programme
Children will be taught skills from the PSHE curriculum with a focus on choices and consequences based on the real events of Billy Dove’s story. The personal nature of the story makes a deeper connection than statistics and abstract facts.
Billy’s Wish Education Programme is based around three films we commissioned: “Safe Adults”, “Consequences” and “The Facts”. It was originally designed for children aged 10 to 13, with three stand-alone sessions based on the films which tell Billy’s story; however, they have also proven to be suitable for older students and young adults.
The most important aim of the Billy’s Wish Education Programme will always be finding ways to keep our children safe. Peer pressure, bullying, personal responsibility, making choices, considering consequences of choices – and knowing where to find help, are all covered in our lessons.
Our Resources are Free to Use
The Billy’s Wish Education Programme is free for schools and other organisations to use. All we ask is that you create an account in order to access our resources.
Our priority is for as many children as possible to be learn about knife crime, and most importantly, how to stay safe and make good choices. In order for that to happen, we don’t want a pay wall to hold anyone back from access to our resources. However, we do need an income and we are grateful for all donations and fundraising events that help us to continue our work.

Format:
There are three ‘Zones’ in the Billy’s Wish Education Programme, with lesson plans based around each of the three films created for Billy’s Wish. They cover themes the children will learn about and learn from, with stronger messages as we progress through the programme.
Zone 1 is suitable for Year 6 (to prepare children for the transition to secondary school).
Zones 2 and 3 were designed for years 7 and 8, but they have been taught up to Sixth Form.

Positive ways forward
Exploration of choices and consequences, with an expectation that children will go beyond giving ‘expected’ answers and responses.
Opportunities for reasoning, discussion and reflection
Specific information and advice about staying safe and dealing with difficult situations.
Zone 1
Zone 1 is suitable for primary school children (year 6) upwards. It includes topics such as Safe Choices, Peer Pressure, Bullying and Safe Adults, in 6 distinct lessons with a printable pupil activity book. The resources are editable and teachers are able to deliver the message in fewer sessions if they wish.
Zone 2: Consequences
Zone 2 is for secondary school pupils in Year 7 upwards, and is centred around the consequences of the choices we make on ourselves and others.
Zone 3: Facts
Zone 3 is for secondary school pupils in Year 8 upwards. It covers similar ground to Zone 2 but with a stronger tone and a greater focus on the legal position related to knives.
Visits
We offer a limited number of assemblies, talks and workshops in schools from Year 6 upwards, youth groups and other interested organisations local to the Hemel Hempstead area. These visits are tailored to your requirements, and the tone can range from relatively gentle PSHE style advice on staying safe, to being extremely hard hitting.
